Halloween Carnival
The annual St. James Academy Halloween Carnival, sponsored by the Student Council, will take place on Friday, October 26th, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Halloween Carnival is only for St. James Preschool and Academy students and their younger siblings. Students may wear appropriate costumes: no weapons, no excessive gore and blood, no wheels, and students must be able to see and sit comfortably in class. There is a Parade of Costumes on the school blacktop immediately after the 8:00 a.m. bell. All are welcome to watch and take pictures. Costume winners will receive a prize and be recognized in the newsletter. Categories are: best individual costume, cutest costume, most creative costume and the best group/pair costume. This year, $25 wristbands will be sold in front of the office before and after school, starting Tuesday, October 9th through Wednesday, October 24th. Wristbands include a Jamba Juice Mini-Smoothie (strawberry or mango), one popcorn, one cotton candy, and unlimited games and booths. Individual tickets and wristbands will be available the day of the carnival (but will not include a smoothie).
4. Please read the weekly SJA newsletter here.
5. Cookies for Kairos: Kairos is a Christian Retreat designed for prison inmates. It is held twice a year at RJ Donovan State Prison in San Ysidro. About 100 prisoners are invited to take part in the retreat each time. As you can imagine, for many of the men in the prison, Jesus Christ and Christianity are far from their minds. To encourage them to attend, we tell them that they will get to eat as many homemade cookies as they like! Often, this is the only reason that they come. But once we have them on the retreat, we treat them with respect and dignity, and watch the Holy Spirit change their hearts. And yes, they can eat as many of your cookies as they like! The retreat goes for 4 days, and we also like to give out cookies to the prison guards and the staff, and if we have enough, we give some to all of the other prisoners in the name of Jesus. That's a lot of cookies - 4 thousand dozen!! Please help. Cookies can be dropped of Friday (10/12) before or after school.
